Genus:Ailuropoda The Giant Panda has a similar structure of a bears, with the typical thick body shape and short tail. Pandas normally eat 99% bamboo, being very picky with the type of bamboo they ingest. They will only eat types of bamboo in which where they inhabit. The other 1% of their diet consists of other grasses & possibly rodents and musk deer fawns. The digestive system of a Panda is closely related with one of a carnivore than a herbivore. Carnivores don't have enough enzymes to digest properly the cellulose in the cell walls of the Bamboo, therefore most of the bamboo goes undigested. In order for a panda to receive the proper amount of nutrients, it must eat up to 9kg-14kg each day, which would take up to 10-16 hours leaving the rest of the day to sleep and rest.
Habitat:
The Giant Panda is well known to live in specifically central Asia. Essentially the provinces of Sichuan, Gonsu & Shankxi all located in China. Wild Pandas inhabit two types of habitats such as forests with bamboo in a reserve & forests with bamboo outside a reserve used by local people.
